Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

Whenever a prominent honors show draws close, you'll find a clamor for the addition additional classifications to recognize unsung work and fill the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. So would tabletop games, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist for pushing forward since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent above others. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications actually cover many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, each quite distinct: structural challenges in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. What category would fit them among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category that year
  • A different innovative game missed out that year
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked that year
  • Only a few puzzle games scraped into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often compact experiences, however the design behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among the most-played games in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators function at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Just like cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
